Understanding Your Insurance: Vision vs. Medical
You’re Covered — Let’s Help You Use It
Insurance can be confusing, but your eye care shouldn’t be. We’re here to make it simple.
Whether you need a routine vision exam or treatment for an eye health concern, we’ll help you use the right plan — and make sure you get the care you need.
What’s the Difference Between Vision and Medical Insurance
Vision Insurance | Medical Insurance |
---|---|
Covers routine eye exams | Covers eye health problems |
Helps with glasses or contact lens costs | Covers conditions like diabetes, dry eye, or infections |
Often used once per year | Used as needed for medical treatment or diagnosis |
Examples: VSP, Superior Vision | Examples: Blue Cross, Aetna, Medicare, etc. |
When Do You Use Vision Insurance?
Vision plans cover routine eye exams, which check your prescription and overall eye health. They also typically help with the cost of:
- Glasses and lenses
- Contact lens fittings
- Optional lens upgrades (anti-reflective, Transitions, etc.)
We currently accept:
- VSP (Vision Service Plan)
- Superior Vision by Versant Health (MetLife)
